Complete timber frame repair of a disused outbuilding

An exciting project at Hellens Manor House, Much Marcle. The Pennington Mellor Munthe Charitable Trust has put in place a programme of works to bring the redundant farm buildings at Hellens back into use. The Haywain Barn project involved repairing and adapting the barn to provide function space for small groups.

The History

The scheme incorporated the use of traditional, environmentally-friendly materials such as a breathable lime-based floor, sheepswool insulation, lath and wood/mineral boards.

The Project

The timber-framing of this listed farm building needed much repair, as the photographs show.  We repaired as much as possible, only replacing when repair was impossible
